Resurrecting Sassy: A Tragic but Inspirational Tale of Survival
We were heartbroken to receive a report for assistance. A destitute woman was walking down the streets, starving to death and terrified. She weighed only 2.9 kg when we found her, so we knew we had to move quickly to save her.
We named her Sassy, and we had to do everything in our power to get her to eat because she was so close to passing away. She didn’t like the baozi that we gave her at first, but she loved the chicken breast that we gave her. We realized that to aid in her recovery, we needed to acquire more girls.
Sassy’s condition worsened over the following few days, and she was eating very little. She needed to be kept on an IV, and we had to do daily blood tests to check if her red blood cell count was declining. When we realized it wasn’t, we decided to do a blood transfusion to preserve her life.
Despite facing numerous obstacles, Sassy continued to fight. She began to eat once more, and we could hear the chomp chomp sound as she devoured her meal. She got a little stronger every day, and we could tell that she was starting to resemble the dog she was supposed to be.
When Sassy finally stopped taking her IV after a few weeks, we were astounded by how much she had grown. In just a few days, she had gained almost a kilogram, and her appetite was growing daily. We could tell she was going to make it since she had even begun to wag her tail when we spoke to her.
In the ensuing weeks, Sassy continued to get better. She started acting more assertively, and it was evident that she was starting to lose her shyness. She began chasing other dogs outside the office, and we realized we needed to begin training her right away before she got too big to handle.
As time passed, Sassy continued to flourish. She gained weight and changed into a gorgeous dog; it was difficult to think that she had once been frail and feeble. Observing her behavior, we realized that we had made the correct decision in releasing her.
Sassy’s narrative is one of survival, of overcoming adversity to reach the other side. We take great pride in having shared in her journey, and we wish that her tale will encourage others to never give up hope, no matter how dire things may appear.
