Nora Hall, who was five months old, experienced a horrific stroke that severely damaged her brain.
It was later discovered that she had pulmonary hypertension from birth. Her life was not going to be lengthy. She spent the ensuing three weeks in a coma that was artificially induced.
Nora had captured the hearts of her two Basset Hounds, Grumpy and Gracie, in just five short months. Mary Hall told ABC News that “Gracie, especially, took on the position of second mother.” Gracie would always go see what was wrong when Nora would cry. She kissed Nora and checked on her all the time, never leaving her side.
The Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis asked the family if they had any final wishes as they got ready to say goodbye to Nora. The parents of Nora firmly said, “Yes.” They were curious as to whether their two dogs would be able to bid their newborn daughter farewell.
“We would appreciate it if you could let us keep our dogs [at the hospital],” Hall continued. “I didn’t want to return home and find out where she went while they were searching the area for her. Upon lowering the bed to allow the dogs to share her bed, Gracie ran over to kiss her.
Mary said, “It was very nice.” “It provided us with great comfort.”
Gracie and Grumpy continue to comfort their family every day. Rest in peace, dear Nora. Sl
