Finally, a loving home has been found for a French Mastiff with terminal cancer, allowing her to live out her remaining days in comfort and love.

Despite having a rough life, 5-year-old French mastiff Mae enjoys everyone she meets. She arrived at Southern Indiana Animal Rescue weighing only 70 pounds, and severely malnourished.

Shortly after her arrival, she received a fatal cancer diagnosis and was given a few weeks to live. Mae was taken in by rescue foster parent Elizabeth Starck, who fell in love with her at first sight and took her home to raise her.

Her adorable underbite, soft features, and kind nature have made her quite popular. Mae has taken on the role of spokesdog for the rescue and meets and greets her fans at fundraisers.

Mae loves to eat, but she loves meeting new people even more. She eats ten cans of wet dog food every day. Starck said that she was startled by the response and that the shelter was out of canned dogs. The shelter got more than 700 dog food cans and other donations to help Mae.

“I cry because of the amazing love and support you’ve given Mae and the rest of us.” Even though Mae hasn’t been as active lately, she still loves attention of any kind. Strack continued, “But most importantly, she still enjoys her food.”

She visits the foster cats every night and enjoys watching them when she isn’t eating. She will just sit and watch the cats play because she is so enamored with them. Her tail goes crazy the moment she sees them. Starck stated, “She woke me up five times in the middle of the night to check on the cats.”

“The adorable small youngster always walks with her mother and is by her side wherever she goes. Mae had found her soul mate, but Starck formalized their relationship by adopting her in front of a judge. “We made it official today, in front of Judge Carmichael.” Starck stated, “Mae may spend her last days with her family (me) because she has been adopted.”

Mae follows her mother about the house and eats every day, even on her bad days. For as long as she is gone, love will be all around her.

“Mae’s rescue mission has blossomed into something larger than I could have dreamed, and it’s all because of you.”
