K-9 Officer Hunter, along with his partner Michael D’Aresta and their coworkers, worked for the Middletown Police Department in Connecticut for ten years before being diagnosed with cancer.
And they wanted him to know just how much they loved him on his last day here on Earth.
Hunter risked his life every day while serving on the force to maintain the safety of the community. His dedicated service to the force came to an abrupt end recently as his health unexpectedly deteriorated:
After doing some tests, it was discovered that K9 Hunter has a very aggressive form of liver cancer, which is why he has been feeling sick for the previous few days. Sadly, they recommended that he be put to death, Sgt. Doug Clark, the Middletown K-9 supervisor, posted on the internet.
D’Aresta was not the only one who was depressed by the diagnosis; he had to make the difficult decision to put his buddy to sleep. That awful day dawned, and D’Aresta was surrounded by their fellow officers outside the veterinary office. Hunter was held in his arms as he was given one last salute by those he served so faithfully with.
Since 2007, Officer D’Aresta and Hunter have provided the City of Middletown with exceptional service, according to Clark. “So, as you might expect, Mike and his family are under a lot of stress right now.”
The town of Middletown has a population of just under 50,000, but thanks to the heartfelt way the police department said goodbye to K-9 Hunter, many more people around the nation and the world are now aware of his legacy, and it is a legacy that will not soon be forgotten.
