One such tale is that of Ducky, a straggling dog who was left in a corner for a terrifying six years before someone at last gave him some assistance.
Ducky’s path to a better future started the moment Elli, the creator of Sky Sanctuary Rescue, saw her for the first time. She was crouching in a corner of a room full of animal feces and grime, the awful proof of neglect. Ducky’s life had been limited to one corner, where he lived among over twenty other creatures, for at least six long years. She had never experienced the simple delight of playing and running like a puppy should, or the warmth of a tender embrace or touch from a loving hand.
“When I entered the room, I spotted her in the corner, her small eyes pleading for help,” Elli recalls that crucial moment. “Please get me out of here,” she begged, peering into my soul. Elli knew instantly that she had to save Ducky from her bleak life.
Ducky’s quest for rehabilitation began with a much-needed bath. Her hair had gotten overgrown and matted from neglect; shaving was necessary to get rid of the thick mats that had accumulated over the years. There was a striking change once the matting came off. The spirit of Ducky, dormant for so long, started to stir.
With strong memories of the event, Elli says, “As soon as we pulled those mats off, she came to life.” Her attitude had improved.” It was evident how liberated and relieved Ducky felt from her bodily pain.
Ducky was greeted by four other enormous female dogs when she arrived at Elli’s house, which at first made people worry about how she would adjust to this strange environment. But what happened next was truly miraculous. Ducky felt more a connection to the other animals than she did to Elli. She had a great affection for her other furry friends.
With love, kindness, and instruction, Ducky blossomed despite his initial dread and trepidation. She had a striking change in personality and started to express herself more honestly. “Ducky’s personality has evolved considerably since we first got her,” Elli observed. After about three weeks, she discovered her voice. She began acting foolish, playing, and voicing her demands. She is now such a content girl, especially when she is around the other animals.”
Elli posted updates on the Facebook page of Sky Sanctuary Rescue, expressing her immense pride in Ducky’s advancements. Ducky is on the road to recovery, and she will be prepared for adoption after her training is through. Elli imagines Ducky growing up in a loving home that is committed to providing for her special needs.
A home with other animals and a patient owner who can give Ducky the care she needs to recover from the trauma of her neglect would be ideal for her.
