The heartwarming sight of a missing dog returning to its owners at a shelter touched the hearts of many.
Being a family member, losing your dog is one of the most heartbreaking experiences someone can have. Brittney was so distraught when Ashley, one of her pets, vanished along with her. Not only was Brittney depressed, but so were her three other dogsāone of them, named Mavis, had stopped eating and was lying by the door!
Ashley just managed to get out of the house since the dog sitter inadvertently left the door open. As soon as Brittney learned about it, she set out to find her and spent many hours in vain. To try to locate a clue, Brittney decided to post about her dog’s incident on Facebook. After two weeks with nothing coming to her, she received a message on Facebook from someone who had seen her post about Ashley.
Brittney’s house in Georgia is 200 miles distant from Daytona Beach, Florida, where the dog was removed by an animal sanctuary. A comment about the shelter sharing a post about a puppy for adoption that resembles Ashley exactly was included in the message. Brittney called the Humane Society at the same moment Ashley was going to be delivered to a new home, but Ashley was already hers.
Since Ashley was not microchipped, they required proof, so Brittney instructed the volunteer to contact Ashley’s dog and check if she answered. When Ashley’s name was called, she immediately came when called, so Brittney drove straight to Daytona to pick up her dog along with Ashley’s medical records. Ashley began to leap as soon as she saw her family, which made the reunion quite emotional.
Out of the 22% of lost dogs who ended up in animal shelters, over 52% of microchipped dogs are returned to their owners, according to the Halifax Humane Society. It follows that microchipping dogs is a good idea. Take a look at the video below.
