A dog who was once saved from terrible burns shows uncontrollable happiness when he sees his veterinarian

Firefighters in West Palm Beach, Florida, were notified of a brush fire close to a homeless camp in March 2017.

Captain Gregg Gordon showed up on time with his crew. When they got there, they discovered a horrifying sight: a guard dog that had been badly burned and was tied to a tree. The poor puppy was uncomfortable.

Firefighter Marcos Orozca removed the dog’s chain and brought him to Jupiter Pet Emergency and Specialty Center (JPESC). Smokey was the pup’s moniker given by the firemen.

According to Gordon, “the little boy was pretty thoroughly burned up,” The Palm Beach Post said. “He was upset even after we grabbed him. I was worried about his survival.”

Dr. Latimer, the veterinarian, rushed the puppy into care. The dog’s back, torso, and hind legs had the worst burns, according to his findings. Even though the dog would need a lot of care and therapy, Dr. Latimer assured the firefighters that he would be OK.

“Smokey received frequent bathing, bandage/wrap changes, and numerous blood transfusions (THANK YOU, “Shadow”) during his time with us at JPESC.” He also had hyperbaric chamber treatments, according to JPESC’s Facebook page, to help with the pain and swelling from all of the burns.

Smokey was nervous and afraid of everyone when he first arrived at JPESC. But as time went on, the dog began to relax more around the veterinarians and nurses. When the firefighters who had saved him came back to see him, Captain Gordon decided to foster the puppy while he healed from his wounds.

After bringing Smokey home, Captain Gordon introduced him to his two dogs. With new playmates, the dog was overjoyed!

Captain Gordon brought Smokey to JPESC for a check-up a week after he was brought home. When Dr. Latimer walked into the room, Smokey sprung to his feet and hugged him! It was obvious that Dr. Latimer had saved the dog’s life, and he wanted to thank him.

He is grateful for all of the love, attention, and time he got while staying with us. Hello again, Smokey! A video was posted to YouTube by JPESC.

During this checkup, Smokey received even more wonderful news. Dr. Katelyn Thomas, one of the other veterinarians, had developed feelings for him. She decided to adopt him and called him Fen.

Smokey/Fen has spent the last two years residing with his mother. The dog is happy in his new house and continues to be a sweetheart. Fen and his mother go on lots of outings together, and he has grown to adore swimming.
