“Pheenie,” or Josephine the dog, was abandoned when her owner was deported. In a junkyard, she took cover behind a shipping container, which provided her with the barest amount of protection from the sun and rain. She lived on leftovers and crumbs the villagers threw at her for nine lonely years. But in the end, she was caught up by time.
By the time Pheenie was an elderly dog, her health had worsened due to the prolonged stress and neglect. In addition to having numerous excruciating breast tumors, a spinal cord infection, worsening dental issues, and a urinary tract infection, she had been hit by a truck and lost her right eye.
This awful movie tracks volunteers from Hope For Paws as they work to relieve Pheenie of her lonely life. Even though the process was challenging, Pheenie soon realized that someone had come to help her during her golden years. With a forlorn expression on her face, she embraced her rescuers, clearly relieved.
Pheenie’s growing medical needs led to her placement in a permanent foster program. She lived a happy, carefree, and lavish life on the expansive farm of her foster family for five lovely months, until she passed away from old age. Pheenie lived an unlucky life of poverty and isolation, but an abundance of affection surrounded her final days. Peace be with you, Pheenie.
