His family is finally there and wants to make up for what he has lost

Although this dog’s job of watching over a property in Cairo was a terrible one, he took it seriously.

He therefore performed what all dogs do when humans approach the land they are meant to be guarding too closely.

Lauren Connelly of Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation (SNARR) told The Dodo, “He barked and they cut his nose off.”

That meant unemployment for the dog, who would eventually be named Anubis after the underworld god of ancient Egypt.

He therefore spent years haunting the streets of the city, frequently seen curled up beneath a car and suffering silently.

He Finally Has A Family That Wants To Make Up For All He’s Lost

Anubis spent a week in Olney, Maryland, after a virtual army of volunteers organized a driver relay from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. From there, the vehicle made stops in Tennessee and Fort Worth, Texas.

It may have seemed to Anubis like a trip to the underworld on his own. All stops were filled with love, though.

And food, naturally. A large amount of food.

Connelly says, “He kind of eats upside down to compensate.”

And a long-term foster home in El Paso, Texas, is his ultimate destination—something akin to nirvana.

Anubis may spend up to six months residing with his foster family. But according to Connelly, they are so “head over heels for him” that there’s a strong possibility they’ll end up becoming his forever family. In addition, he has already fallen in love with his new sister, a blind dog who was also saved.

Anubis is no longer a dog of the underworld after spending so many years living below moving automobiles on busy, hazardous streets. But the couch’s god.
