Dogs view firefighters as heroes as much as humans do.
Firefighter Mike Thawley saw a sick puppy in Sacramento with no fur tied up in the rain by the side of the road.
“Just as the crew, E14 Sacramento Fire Department, and I were wrapping up a medical aide call, someone approached and informed us that a dog had been left tied up in the rain for several hours.” Thawley tells This Dog’s Life, “She was scared, wet, cold, and hairless.”
After cutting the rope and returning the dog to Station 14, Thawley and his crew cleaned her and delivered her to the Front Street Animal Shelter.
Still, Thawley wasn’t finished. He went to see how the little girl was doing out of curiosity. The firefighter, who gives her the nickname Chunk, has a significant impact on the puppy.
“Looks like she remembers her buddy,” the shelter comments in a video of the reunion.
Viewers can observe Chunk contentedly following behind Thawley and the shelter employee waving her tail after she puts on a shirt to shield her from the sun.
Although Thawley is fostering the dog and may decide to adopt her, the video has received a lot of attention and has been viewed close to 60,000 times. It seems likely that the dog will have no problem finding a forever home.
“She has a wonderful personality. She is developing into a lively, typical puppy now that she is feeling better, according to Thawley.
